Friday Frills

It's hard to sit around and wait for something you know may never happen,
But it's even harder to give up when you think it's everything you want.

Maybe it would be easier if we stop analyzing the past,
Stop planning the future,
Stop trying to figure out precisely how we feel,
Stop deciding with our mind what we want our hearts to feel.
Sometimes, we just have to go with:
Whatever happens - happens.

The Mystique of Mikhael Kale

Dozens of new designers emerge with every new season, but it takes a creative genius to stand out from the crowd. Initiating his line in 2007, Canadian designer Mikhael Kale has made a notable mark on the fashion industry with his innovative brand of clothing. He constructs avant grade outfits that are fashion forward but retain their wearability.

Mikhael sculpts exquisite structured silhouettes that contour and profile the female form to it's best degree. A fondness of leather is seen in edgy LBD's, streamlined trousers and laser cut cropped coats. Kale contrasts the softness and femininity of lace by boldly remoulding it into architectural shapes. Delicate origami folds and prominent peplums are tacked onto chic sheath dresses. Oversized collars and cut-outs revise what we knew about the maxi coat.

Mikhael traces the outlines of traditional patterns with newfangled prowess and artistry. His looks are tough as nails but sexy to the core. Here is a glance at the impressive Mikhael Kale collections for 2012.

Olivia Palermo for Marie Claire Spain

Cover Girl Olivia Palermo
Marie Claire Spain April 2012

Olivia Palermo is taking over the fashion world, one magazine cover at a time. The reality star has been featured endlessly on blogs, style sites and publications all over the world...yet we still don't know what she 'does' for a living. Famous for being famous, Olivia's biggest talent arguably lies in her ability to put a savvy outfit together. Taking some of the pressure off for a bit, here she is styled in a retro glamour shoot by Florence Reveillaud for Marie Claire Spain, the April 2012 issue.

Olivia is radiant in a crimson red Christian Dior Spring 2012 dress with finely pleated gossamer skirt, metallic clasped belt and a sheer plunge V-neckline.

Making a style statement out of vintage print cars, Olivia dons a dainty multi-coloured silk Prada frock with high round neck, pleat-tucked bodice and elasticized waistband.

Beautifully captured in another pleated Prada ensemble, Olivia is shaded in a serene combination of yellow, turquoise and red. Her jewellery is by Carerra y Carrera.

Hailing in the pastel Spring 2012 trend, Olivia wears a soft-hued Masscob shirt, horizontally striped in pale pink, lemon and mint. A pair of white YSL trousers is teamed with it.

Olivia is pretty in pink, wearing a rosy and romantic embroidered lace skirt and top with peplum flounce and ruffle sleeves. The outfit is from Valentino's Spring 2012 collection.

And finally my favourite of all the looks, Olivia delights in fanciful outfit by Louis Vuitton. She wears an ivory satin top with double folded hem, paired with a quaint broderie anglaise and feathered ombré skirt that graduates from white to blue. Silver and white glossy strap, pointy-toed mules are transferred from catwalk to cover girl.

Which is your favourite retro look from Olivia's Marie Claire photo shoot?

Looks Of The Week - 07/04/12

The weekly round-up of celebrity style on and off the red carpet.

Out & About
Olivia Palermo dressed up a paired of cuffed denim jeans with a white Masscob shirt and dazzling silver sequined jacket. A blue Dior bag and purple silk cap-toe pumps by Giambattista Valli accessorized her look.
Brooklyn Decker was optically alluring in a digital print Peter Pilotto pencil skirt, which she simply paired with a navy tank by Theyskens' Theory. Bold neon yellow pointy toe pumps by Christian Louboutin were an eye-catching choice of footwear.
Lauren Conrad's street style is always feminine and polished, as seen in this pretty ensemble. She wears a printed Tibi top, peach silk chiffon Paper Crown skirt, nude Casadei platform pumps and a beige Chanel flap bag.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was chic in a tailored grey metallic tweed coat by Theyskens' Theory, slickly worn over a black tee, Helmut Lang leather leggings and Alexander Wang sandals.
Ellen Pompeo looked great outside the dull ensembles we usually see her in on 'Grey's Anatomy'. She colour blocked a sleeveless white top with cerise pink Stella McCartney tapered lounge pants. A black clutch, Lanvin cuff bracelet and black cut-out Azzedine Alaia sandals enhanced her cute outfit.

It Was All Yellow
Celebrities convey the yellow colour trend in abundance this week.
Emily Blunt looked graceful in a saffron yellow Elie Saab dress with belted waist and three-quarter sleeves. Emily added a silver-grey clutch bag and a sizzling pair of yellow crystal beaded Sergio Rossi heels. Bonus points for the bright red lips and nails.
Cat Deely wears an asymmetrical ombré number by Tadashi Shoji. Her hand-painted lemon and white silk linen frock is teamed with a Chloé clutch bag and nude Jimmy Choo sandals.
Gabrielle Union was outstanding in a daffodil yellow V-neck gown with flowing pleated skirt by Bill Blass.
Taylor Swift looked adorable in a canary yellow and white printed Shoshanna 'Tweet' dress, worn with brown bow-stap sandals.
Nicole Richie took a unique approach to the yellow trend, wearing a black and sunflower yellow rose print v-neck maxi dress from her own line, Winter Kate. I can't decide if I like this look or not.

Glamour Girls
Taylor Swift was a vision in white at the Academy of Country Music Awards. The blonde beauty looked sensational in a contoured, cut-out J.Mendel gown with gold curved accents.
Jennifer Lopez seems to get more glamourous by the episode of 'American Idol'. The popular judge looked ravishing in an ensemble by Lanvin, which comprised of a shimmering silver silk lamé skirt with thigh-high split and accordion pleats, a white jersey top with padded shoulders and a sexy pair of leather, suede and wood platforms.
Jennifer Nettles stole the colour spotlight at the Academy of Country Music Awards last Sunday. The Sugarland singer looked stunning in a vivid watermelon pink Max Azria gown with sheer lace panels and pleated skirt, unexpectedly paired with a bright yellow belt.
Brooklyn Decker upped the style ante on her 'Battleship' movie tour while in Japan. The pretty actress picked out a remarkable navy and white Stella McCartney cut-out gown with wide gold waistband.

Who Wore The Printed Paige Jeans Better?

Who Wore It Better?
Paige 'Verdugo' Ultra Skinny Jeans

We recently saw fashion icon Olivia Palermo elegantly pull off a pair of tie-dye Paige skinny jeans on the streets of New York. Since then, two other starlets have caught onto the trend. One pair of printed jeans, three unique angles...who wore it best?

Olivia Palermo added a sophisticated, upscaled aspect to her Paige 'Verdugo' Tumble Wash jeans, turning up the fold to show off a pair of sassy two-tone leather and animal print 'Avery' pumps by L.A.M.B. A well-tailored navy blue double-breasted blazer and large red Armani bag accompanied her look.
Minka Kelly kept it casual in Sydney, Australia, giving her pair of printed red, pink, blue and white Paige skinny jeans a more laid back approach. She styled it with a white tee, an Alice + Olivia front draped grey knit cardigan, Ray Ban sunglasses and flat Gladiator sandals.
Poppy Delevingne took her pair of Paige jeans for a night time stroll while out in London. Her after dark look included a black tee and cropped blazer with folded up sleeves. Poppy tossed in a few interesting accessories with a blue bejewelled necklace, navy fringed sling bag and suede tie-up ankle boots.

The Paige Verdugo Skinny Jeans are available online from
various department stores at a price of $199

All three ladies gave the printed jeans trend their own individual slant on styling, but for me it's Olivia that wore it best. She took a pair of 70's tie-dyed hippie inspired skinny jeans and turned it into a chic and polished street savvy look. What are your thoughts?
