Friday Frills

You are not made up of those words that hurt you.
Or that number on the scale.
Or the expectations that you feel you will never meet.

You are made up of nothing more than you.
Simply, beautifully, wonderfully, uniquely you.
You are a lovely and complex soul.

An individually fascinating combination of thoughts, ideas, feelings, emotions.
No other is as beautiful as you. Look past the mirror. Look at your soul.
Only then will you see yourself as you truly are. Beautiful.

Love yourself. Forgive yourself.
And be true to yourself.
How you treat yourself sets the standard for how others will treat you.

Elle Vietnam - A Spring 2014 Couture Spread

The Art of Haute Couture
Elle Vietnam
April 2014

The best part about online magazines is that it closes the gap between countries thousands of miles apart and allows us to view beautiful editorials we may have never seen before. Elle Vietnam presents the majesty of Spring 2014 Haute Couture in their latest issue, lensed by photographer Benjamin Kanarek and styled by Adele Cany. He captures Canadian model Dauphine McKee in a myriad of exquisite couture looks that tantalize our high fashion palates.

Dauphine McKee is ravishing in avocado green on the cover of Elle Vietnam April 2014, dressed in a visually expressive ruffled confection by Alexandre Vauthier.

Marco Zanini debuted at Schiaparelli in grand fashion, showing off a gargantuan puff sleeved white jacket that capes a billowy chiffon gown with feathered headdress.

We have Karl Lagerfeld to thank for updating the average sneaker to couture status. Dauphine looks stunning in a turquoise and teal iridescent peacock feathered dress with sequined tulle skirt.

What seems to be floral curtaining takes a couture turn in this well tailored (and actually wearable) pantsuit by Maison Martin Margiela. In typical MMM avant-grade style, the look is paired with a mesh mask & bronze boots.

Touching upon more feminine ground, Dauphine is styled in a beautiful ivory slashed bodice and satin pleated skirt by Alexis Mabille.

With his futuristic design aesthetic, couturier Stéphane Rolland gave us a glazed apricot orange gown with a patent leather exaggerated bodice and sheer paneled skirt.

Dauphine strides in a wave of sky blue organza and a mesh beaded top by Armani Privé, topped with a headscarf that supplements the ethnic feel to this outfit.

A spiked gold choker and burgundy leather bustier lend a goth dominatrix look to this edgy and sensual Alexandre Vauthier ensemble.

Dauphine cites the retro disco era in a silver silk jersey hooded jumpsuit with plunging neck by Versace that is fully encrusted with studs and sequins.

Dauphine takes flight in a theatrical butterfly shaped Jean Paul Gaultier silhouette, set in flutters of lace trimmed cerise pink organza. Wearable? Well, maybe for a show girl. Creative? Most definitely.

This artful white On Aura Tout Vu dress is constructed from an inventive gem-studded high-collar and off-the-shoulder neckline with a split high-low hem draped skirt.

It takes a skilled photographer to make an Elie Saab gown look even more stunning in editorial, as Benjamin does with this gorgeous oceanic blue silk chiffon dress with slitted skirt and strapless neckline.

Modesty and grace meld together in Valentino's guipure lace embroidered long-sleeved gown.

The true essence of Spring is depicted by beaming canary yellow and coralista pink in a radiant two-piece creation with embellished top and fishtail skirt by Giambattista Valli.

Which of these Spring 2014 Couture looks inspire your imagination?

Friday Frills

Do not take anything as being forever
because forever is only as long as today.

Know that the people who are richest
Are not those who have the most,
But those who need the least.

We are at our strongest when life is at its worst,
And at our weakest when life no longer offers a challenge.

It is wiser not to expect, but to hope,
For in expecting you ask for disappointment,
Whereas in hoping you invite surprise.

Unhappiness doesn't come from not having something that you want,
But from the lack of something inside that you need.

There are things to hold on too, and things to let go,
And letting go doesn't mean you lose,
But that you acquire that which has been waiting around the corner.

Most of all,
Remember to use your dreams as a way of knowing yourself better,
And as an inspiration to reach for the stars...

Charlotte Olympia's Nautical Spring 2014 Collection

Charlotte Olympia
Spring/Summer 2014
Bags and Shoes

Creativity overflows at the offices of British shoe designer Charlotte Olympia Dellal this Spring, where we are taken on a thrilling adventure across the high seas in true nautical style. Her treasure map of imaginative bags and shoes is inked in red, navy and and white, dotted with palm tree green and crustacean coral. Silver and gold metallic pairs take us on a voyage of sun glazed beaches with shimmering waves of aquamarine.

Charlotte doesn't hold back on the quirk factor, with whimsical lobster emblems, mystical mermaids and starfish motifs, not to mention a few fish-frenzied leather and suede pairs. Her signature Kitty Flats are given a summertime makeover, imprinted with cute sunglasses. Anchors, ropes and canvas contribute to the maritime theme, with fun elements like message in a bottle heels (the S.O.S sandals) and pumps decked with opened oyster shells.

Charlotte's fantasy seaside vacation is complete with winsome tourist essentials like compass and camera box bags, a miniature suitcase clutch, sunshade shaped pouches and postcard and sailor printed purses. Whilst you may look like fish out of water carrying around a treasure chest or coconut clutch, these beachy pieces will certainly attract attention.

It may not be entirely practical but I like the light-heartedness Charlotte brings to her collections. This is part of the Charlotte Olympia Spring/Summer 2014 range.

Krikor Jabotian Couture Spring/Summer 2014

Officially rising to the top of my list of favourite couturiers is Krikor Jabotian. The more I view his designs, the more spellbound I am by his intricate detailing and ability to churn lifeless pieces of fabric into breathtaking pieces of art. Krikor's approach to couture is unlike any other, he engineers unique three-dimensional silhouettes that impress at every angle.

For Spring/Summer 2014 the Lebanese designer presents an exquisite range entitled 'AkhTamar', the romantic yet tragic love story of a princess called Tamar. She is dressed in a passionate cherry red, palest blush pink, ornate ivory and the purest white. Decadent metallic gold thread is embroidered across the dresses, forming elaborate rococo motifs. High-low hemlines are amplified by volume, necklines are kept demurely high and a labyrinth of tulle and chiffon pleated layers create ethereal waterfall skirts. Luminescent crystals are regally dusted upon the caped gowns, with Grecian inspired headpieces that add to the opulence of the collection.

Dresses magical enough to dream up your own exotic fairytale, this is Krikor Jabotian's Spring/Summer 2014 Haute Couture Collection.
