New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 - Part 2

New York Fashion Week
Spring/Summer 2013
Part Two

The exciting second chapter of New York Fashion Week, where we see pastels, black & white, orange and blues rule. For Part One snap this. For a larger view, click on the images.

Donna Karan

Palette: A hazy blend of antique white, spa green, flushed rose, lunar blue, apricot, honey, navy and ice grey.
Silhouettes: Elegantly draped and folded dresses, fitted bodices with floaty asymmetrical skirts, cropped coats, lightly sequined evening gowns and an overall easiness of shapes.
Textiles: Silk, cotton, gazar, linens, chiffon, jersey, sequins, raffia and crepe.
Theme: The ethereal lightness of Spring.
Styling: Ankle-tied gladiator sandals, prettily up-styled buns with ribbon Alice bands and conspicuous cerise shaded eyes.

Altuzarra

Palette: Nature-tones of stone, moss green, cobalt, sky blue, sand, sienna, black & gold.
Silhouettes: Expertly tailored trenches and caped coats, tasseled fringing, front-pocket pencil skirts, draped cocktail dresses and scarf wrapped tops, blazers and skirts.
Textiles: Fine stripes, fringing, silk, cotton and exotic art deco prints.
Theme: Nomadic Sophisticate.
Styling: Strappy knee-high open-toe gladiator boots by Gianvitto Rossi and distinctively draped neck scarves. Models wore a side-parted low chignon with minimal makeup.

Carolina Herrera

Palette: Lemon, sea foam green, bright citrus orange, glacier white, pale blue ecru & black.
Silhouettes: Long, flowing maxi dresses embellished with beads, sponge printed skirts and collared shirts, billowy bishop sleeves with cuffs, colour-block column gowns, sheer yokes and hemlines just above the ankle.
Textiles: Silk chiffon, organza, georgette, tulle, lace and curl-embroidered motifs.
Theme: Fluid Femininity
Styling: Cross-strap sandals, skinny belts, sleek straight hair and a smokey eye.

Victoria Beckham

Palette: The unfailingly chic combination of black, white and red, tinged with nude.
Silhouettes: The signature Beckham body con dresses, this time more athletic with sheer inserts, visible bra-straps and collars. Crisp buttoned-up shirts, tailored trousers and maxis, lingerie-like sheaths and the cool curved jacket to throw over them all.
Textiles: Lattice-work, chiffon, lace trims, mesh and georgette.
Theme: The Modern Minimalist
Styling: Rectangular leather clutch bags, hats, Manolo Blahnik shin-hugging gladiator sandals, peep-toe ankle boots and masculine buckled loafers. Models wore natural makeup and sported a behind-the-ears middle-parted hairstyle.

Diane von Furstenburg

Palette: A vibrant fruit salad of shades in tangerine, acid green, aqua, bronze, peach-coral, sunshine yellow, navy and white.
Silhouettes: Relaxed tailoring and draping, the casual day coat, longer length colour-blocked tunics over trousers, billowy gowns, jumpsuits and the dependable DVF wrap dress, of course.
Textiles: Abstract prints and tie-dye, shimmering sequins, crepe and silk.
Theme: Fashion tales from a traveling gypsy princess
Styling: Futuristic Google glasses, metallic belts & collars, silver bell embellished heels, chain-trimmed ankle straps on shoes in bright shades, semi-straight hair and clean makeup.
Marc Jacobs

Palette: Monochromatic black and white, with a sweep of khaki beige and plum.
Silhouettes: Lean, elongated shapes, vertical and horizontal striped dresses, straight necklines, oversized coats, low-slung skirts, streamlined maxi gowns, ruffled two-tone collars, scalloped and linear shredded skirts.
Textiles: A multitude of stripes,  leather leopard and checkerboard print in sequins.
Theme: The psychedelic striped 60's
Styling: Retro coifs with a wide side fringe, shadowy black eye-makeup, pointy-toe single-strap pumps and matching striped handbags.

Alexander Wang

Palette: An urbane palette of black, glow-in-the-dark white, beige and molten silver.
Silhouettes: Strong boxy shapes, shirt dresses & oversized tees, athletic shaped sweaters with rounded shoulders, parka jackets & cropped tops. Slinky dresses with linear & wavy cut-outs, made from strips of fabrics that were almost invisibly held together by fishing wire.
Textiles: Exotic leather, cable knit, cotton, rubberized twill and mesh.
Theme: Futuristic Sports Luxe
Styling: Slicked back hair in a ponytail with electric tape down the middle, flesh tone make-up, dominatrix style sandals, some strapped at the knee, baseball hats and woven bags.

Zac Posen

Palette: Rich ruby red, olive, teal, amber, ivory, black, navy and blue-grey.
Silhouettes: The iconic Posen fish-tail skirt, structured corsets with strapless sweetheart necklines, fitted tux blazers, tulle lined peplums, stiff satin gowns, knee-length cocktail dresses with box pleating.
Textiles: Silk crepe, duchess satin, chiffon florals, rose embroidery, organza and tulle.
Theme: Retro Hollywood Glamour
Styling: The bevy of renowned supermodels including Naomi Campbell, Coco Rocha, Karolina Kurkova and Isabeli Fontana, were styled with smooth set-back waves, loads of lashes, cat-eye shades and satin ankle-strap pumps.

I think altuzarra is my favorite from this spread. These are all amazing runway looks and definitely there isn't a recurring theme for Spring, so I am looking forward to an anything goes approach.

Wow, you've put together such a comprehensive collection of some of the best shows at NYFW! I actually adored Carolina Herrera this season, they can generally be a bit hit and miss for me, so it was lovely seeing such luxe fabrics and a gorgeous muted palette from them.
Zac Posen and Alexander Wang are always favourites of mine, too - the clean lines at Alexander Wang always have me swooning! xx

Fantastic selection! So much that, let's say, supposing I have the possibility of buying some of the outfits... then I selected Dona Karan's cobalt blue long skirt... then Carolina Herrera's skirt with orangelateral stripes, Victoria Beckham's red skirt and jacket and some of the Zac Posen's collection! Really beautiful pieces!
