The Floral Jeans Trend

Arguably one of the biggest casual wear trends to sweep over us this year are floral jeans. The trend evolved from the beautiful floral prints displayed on the SS12 runways of designers like Dolce & Gabbana, Peter Som, Celine, Prabal Gurung and Diane von Furstenberg. Then we saw endless photos of celebrities like Olivia Palermo and Jessica Alba wearing a pair of brightly hued floral pants, turning it into a world-wide craze. But it's not just flowery blossoms that's catching on - visually interesting patterns, tie-dye, smudges and stripes have also been splashed to skinny denim jeans. These are some of the most eye-catching pairs designer denim pairs currently making waves.

Jessica Alba Takes On the Coloured Denim Trend

It seems impossible to escape the coloured skinny jeans trend. It's in magazines and stores everywhere, and with so many delightful colours, it's difficult to pick the perfect pair. Or...you could be like Jessica Alba and buy one in every shade. The stylish actress shows off the many ways to wear the trend, which will perhaps inspire an outfit of your own.

Shades of Pink
1. Jessica strolls the sidewalks of LA in pastel pink AG Adriano Goldschmied skinny jeans. It's worn with a white tee, denim Current/Elliott waistcoat, vibrant orange saddle bag by Ralph Lauren, colourful Salvatore Ferragamo flats and a beige Antik Batik scarf.
2. She pairs Sangria pink Black Orchid jeans with a cozy black coat, ankle boots and a matching pink Loewe flamenco sling bag.
3. Jess dresses down a peachy pink J Brand skinny ankle jeans with a long grey Joe's Jeans jacket, white shirt, brown ankle boots and a Loewe bow clutch bag.
4. Trying out the neon trend, Jessica looks great in a hot pink 7 For All Mankind pair, edgily paired with a black Burberry leather biker vest, black t-shirt and studded shoes.

Brights
5. A fun and playful pairing of blue and apple green, Jessica looks lively in Level 99 skinny jeans, an azure Sportmax coat and tangerine Proenza Schouler bag.
6. A flash of acid yellow leggings is contrasted with all black.
7. Jessica is casual in a saturated sky blue pair of AG jeans worn with a white J Brand denim jacket, white tank top, printed scarf and Tory Burch flats.
8. Pressing 'refresh' on airport style, Jessica dons an eye-catching pair of neon green Current/Elliott jeans with a grey sweater, black scarf and boots, a Chloe bag and cute fedora.

Seeing Red
9. Jessica styles up a pair of red pants, adding a tinge of turquoise, a black leather biker, yellow Kate Spade shoulder bag and Giuseppe Zanotti cap-toe pumps.
10. Showing us another way to rock red, Jessica wears an Alice + Olivia pair with a multi-hued Amanda Uprichard striped shirt, Prada tote bag and her trusty black ankle boots.
11. Keeping it slick and simple, Jessica combines classic shades of red, black and white with chic results. She wears cherry red Joe's Jeans skinnies, a plain t-shirt, tuxedo jacket and carries a black Coach bag.

Who Wore The Printed Paige Jeans Better?

Who Wore It Better?
Paige 'Verdugo' Ultra Skinny Jeans

We recently saw fashion icon Olivia Palermo elegantly pull off a pair of tie-dye Paige skinny jeans on the streets of New York. Since then, two other starlets have caught onto the trend. One pair of printed jeans, three unique angles...who wore it best?

Olivia Palermo added a sophisticated, upscaled aspect to her Paige 'Verdugo' Tumble Wash jeans, turning up the fold to show off a pair of sassy two-tone leather and animal print 'Avery' pumps by L.A.M.B. A well-tailored navy blue double-breasted blazer and large red Armani bag accompanied her look.
Minka Kelly kept it casual in Sydney, Australia, giving her pair of printed red, pink, blue and white Paige skinny jeans a more laid back approach. She styled it with a white tee, an Alice + Olivia front draped grey knit cardigan, Ray Ban sunglasses and flat Gladiator sandals.
Poppy Delevingne took her pair of Paige jeans for a night time stroll while out in London. Her after dark look included a black tee and cropped blazer with folded up sleeves. Poppy tossed in a few interesting accessories with a blue bejewelled necklace, navy fringed sling bag and suede tie-up ankle boots.

The Paige Verdugo Skinny Jeans are available online from
various department stores at a price of $199

All three ladies gave the printed jeans trend their own individual slant on styling, but for me it's Olivia that wore it best. She took a pair of 70's tie-dyed hippie inspired skinny jeans and turned it into a chic and polished street savvy look. What are your thoughts?

Tuesday Thrills - J Brand Jeans

Wide Leg Jeans
by J Brand

This Winter, the wide leg jean makes a trendy comeback. This 70's inspired pair of denim is fitted on the waist and hip, slightly looser on the thigh, then extends into a bell-bottom shape from the knee down. The wide leg silhouette elongates your bottom half and makes you look taller. Which is exactly what I need. I love these fabulous pairs of wide legs from quintessential denim company, J Brand.

1. Skipper in Atlantic. 100% cotton, mid rise pair of jeans in a lovely blue-grey colour. Wear it to work with a tucked in white shirt. $211 or R1421.
2. Kiki in Pure. A dark blue pair of high rise jeans made from lightweight stretch fabric. Wear it with high heels, pretty cami and cardigan. $180 or R1212.
3. Bette in Aspen. White jeans can be intimidating, but the shape of this one ensures a classy look. Wear with a light denim blue shirt or striped tee for a nautical look. $218 or R1468.
4. Kiki in Shadow. A black pair of wide legs is more forgiving on your bottom half. This high-rise stretch jeans are as good as a pair of black trousers. $196 or R1320.
5. Kiki in Lotus. This medium blue denim with faded detail is great for weekend wear with a simple t-shirt and leather belt. $203 or R1367.
6. Bette in Wonderama. A lighter wash denim with high rise and front pockets. Wear with a printed feminine 70's style blouse and wedge heels. $218 or R1468.

The Coloured Jeans Trend

Denim jeans in delectable shades are a huge trend this season. Add a refreshing splash of colour to your rail of tedious blue jeans. If you're intimidating by the bright colours, you can opt for subtle pastel shades instead. This streetwise trend has been a hit with celebrities, as shown below.

Top Row
Electric Blue: Kim Kardashian, Malin Akerman, Hayden Panettiere and Khloe Kardashian.
Canary Yellow: Jada Pinkett Smit
Clover Green: Anna Kendrick
Mint Green: Cameron Diaz

Bottom Row

Lava Red: Sarah Jessica Parker, Cheryl Cole, Hayden Panettiere and Khloe Kardashian.
Burgundy: Rachel Bilson and Alexa Chung
Candied Pink: Katy Perry

Tips for Wearing Coloured Jeans

* Team your coloured jeans with neutral tops like black, white, beige and grey.
* Coloured jeans draw attention to your bottom half- this is something you need to be comfortable with.
* A biker jacket or blazer will complement your look.
* Add a printed scarf to jazz things up.
* Keep accessories to a minimum.
* Make sure your jeans are a skinny fit. A colourful wide leg will make you look like part of the Brady Bunch.
* Wear your jeans with ankle boots or flats. Heels make it look too dressed up.
* Have fun with the exciting colours on offer.
