Gwen Stefani's great taste for all things 'fashion' spreads to her preeminent shoe label L.A.M.B. Whilst I am not a frequent wearer of knee-bending, ankle-chafing high heels, I find that these dashing pairs appeal to those who value comfort as well. I would gladly step into one of Gwen's trendy pairs of ankle boots, particularly 'Thacker', with its studded and chained straps that are exemplary of the singer's edgy and modern grunge style. 

The brand uses high-quality materials like supple leather and soft suedes with chic metallic details that define that cool but gritty rock 'n rock vibe. This season, multi-straps are a must-have with voguish caged stilettos, tribal inspired tie-ups, braided bands and laddered ankle-straps. Amidst the black, white and burgundy pairs, we find powder blue and lemon edged pumps that will uplift any solid-toned outfit. 

Prints make an animalistic appearance with leopard, dalmatian and houndstooth patterned pairs. Not forgetting those with a sportier disposition, Gwen's high-top sneakers have been sold out and restocked a number of times. Geometrically slanted stilettos will have you a step ahead in the office and elegant monochromes will have your evening out styled to precision.

Summer 2014 Shoes by Burak Uyan

Talent isn't made or bought, it's something that you're born with and Turkish-German designer Burak Uyan certainly has that intrinsic eye for style. After fine-tuning his skills at Givenchy & Giambattista Valli, Uyan rerouted his career to footwear, forming his eponymous label in 2010.

Since then, this Parisian-based artist has been known in fashion circles as 'The Architect', and its clear why, as he is fervently influenced by strong architectural shapes and towering constructions, which he transfigures into fashionable footwear. His structural Summer 2014 collection is a shoe lover's treasure chest of elegant and sophisticated pairs that make a statement with every step.

Burak's design aesthetic represents all that is glamourous about high heels, without overstepping the line of the outré and unwearable. Strappy slingbacks and caged sandals dominate in vivid tones of cobalt blue, aquamarine and tangerine, with a hint of yellow and subdued pastel hues that are sure to ignite any outfit. Burak experiments with contrasting colours and textures: leather with suede, prints and plains, accented by buckles and studs. Abstract ethnic and animal prints are etched across a refreshing set of flats and ankle-strap pairs. 

Colour-blocked cut-out pairs are engineered to precision in sky scraping heights, the curvature a marvel in it's own right. Glossy metallic sandals add pizazz to your evening attire and chic black & white pairs are given a modern interpretation with interesting geometric forms and sharp angles.

There isn't a pair that I wouldn't want in this outstanding range. Burak Uyan is a designer to watch, I can already envision many of his creations making their way down runways and red carpets.

Creativity overflows at the offices of British shoe designer Charlotte Olympia Dellal this Spring, where we are taken on a thrilling adventure across the high seas in true nautical style. Her treasure map of imaginative bags and shoes is inked in red, navy and and white, dotted with palm tree green and crustacean coral. Silver and gold metallic pairs take us on a voyage of sun glazed beaches with shimmering waves of aquamarine.

Charlotte doesn't hold back on the quirk factor, with whimsical lobster emblems, mystical mermaids and starfish motifs, not to mention a few fish-frenzied leather and suede pairs. Her signature Kitty Flats are given a summertime makeover, imprinted with cute sunglasses. Anchors, ropes and canvas contribute to the maritime theme, with fun elements like message in a bottle heels (the S.O.S sandals) and pumps decked with opened oyster shells.

Charlotte's fantasy seaside vacation is complete with winsome tourist essentials like compass and camera box bags, a miniature suitcase clutch, sunshade shaped pouches and postcard and sailor printed purses. Whilst you may look like fish out of water carrying around a treasure chest or coconut clutch, these beachy pieces will certainly attract attention.

It may not be entirely practical but I like the light-heartedness Charlotte brings to her collections. This is part of the Charlotte Olympia Spring/Summer 2014 range.

Firmly paving her way in between the aisles of Louboutins and Manolo Blahnik's, Sophia Webster has carved a name for herself in the world of luxury footwear with her innovative and whimsical creations. This season, the British shoe designer has outdone herself with beautiful pairs of butterfly winged heels in glossy patent leather shades of spearmint, baby pink, black, cerise and teal.

The trendy polka heart print is seen on eye-catching satin pairs, whist dreamy pastel leather clouds are adorned upon flatforms and mules with perspex heels. Faux heart-perforated socks add a playful retro touch to red leather ankle boots. Jellies are given a modern colourblocked makeover with glittered heels. Psychedelic slingbacks are striped and vividly shaded in bright summer hues with quirky appliquéd catch phrases, corresponding to the brand's highly desired speech bubble bags.

Serene pastels are seen in wrap-around heels embedded with colourful gems in graphic printed canvas and suede. A charming assembly of candied raffia and rubber-soled flat sandals, striped grosgrain espadrilles and signature speech bubble leather loafers provide shoppers with a wearable alternative to all those 4 inch heels.

Heels to Dance Into 2014

Ideally, the best kind of shoes to dance in would be ballet flats or comfy sneakers, but then again, those wouldn't really go with elegant New Years Eve dresses. If Dancing with the Stars is anything to go by, it is possible to sway the night away in a pair of 6 inch heels. We all know how the stories go, tales told to us when we were little about bears and girls with golden locks, frogs that turn into princes and white rabbits that are always late. Gingerbread houses, red hooded capes, cats that wear boots, sleeping beauties and damsels in distress. 

Now take everything you know about these age-old fairy tales and forget about them. This is the grown up girl's Bedtime Story by Charlotte Olympia, who relates a tall, whimsical tale of enchanted forests daintily painted onto pumps, organza floral decked heels and luscious suede and velvet stilettos. Tiny enamel teddy bears and frog prince motifs are quirkily perched onto shoe fronts, and gold braiding that depicts a trapped-in-a-tower princess with long blonde hair.

The design brand spins it's web of inspiration from a Grimm Brother's classic, 'Once Upon a Time', crafting feminine and captivating shoes that allows the wearers to relive the fantasy in real life, and high style. Sophia Webster Shoes Fall/Winter 2013

It takes a lot to stand out in the competitive world of designer shoe labels, but Sophia Webster does just that with great aplomb. The award winning young British designer debuted her first collection last year to high acclaim. Instantly, her shoes became a hit with Hollywood starlets, magazine editors, bloggers and beyond. 

For Fall/Winter 2013, Sophia dips her paintbrush into a pot of bright pinks, citrus orange, purple & turquoise hues, along with holographic metallics that define her modern design aesthetic. Leather & suede are expertly pieced together to create unique pairs that make an unforgettable statement with their charm & vivacity. Geometric zig zags are tacked into multi-coloured winter heels with trendy cut-outs and ankle straps (Set 1). Electric animal prints jazz up sheer mesh shoes (Set 2) and strappy buckle-up sandals usher in sophistication (Set 3).
