Looks of the Week - 29/06/13

The weekly roundup of celebrity style, on and off the red carpet.

Colouring the Curb
Miley Cyrus ensures she snaps up some attention in this royal blue cropped Emilio Pucci silk bomber jacket embroidered with an Asian inspired tiger design. She also wore a matching layered pencil skirt with knotted-button-up sides. Her white heels are by Celine.
It's so great to see Victoria Beckham in some bright colour. She looked polished in a long-length primrose yellow gilet and cornflower blue trousers, styled with a white shirt and a laser-cut leather bag, all hand-picked from her own collection, of course.
Cameron Diaz films a movie scene in NYC looking snazzy in a colourful Altuzarra Ikat tank dress, suited with a white Stella McCartney blazer and ankle-strap sandals.

Duality

Fearne Cotton makes a welcomed return to the style scene. The new mum looked trendy in black dungarees, teamed with a striped tee and bright pink heels.
Jessica Gomes defines sophistication in a buttoned-up white shirt, styled with darkwash skinny denims, pointy-toe heels, a black blazer and red hot lipstick.
Zara Martin wears a perfect fitting pair of black pants with white ruffled bib top by Moschino.
Taylor Schilling dons a modernistic white wrap dress from Calvin Klein Collection, sleekly fitted with black leather lapels and a black belt.

To The Max(i)
Selena Gomez goes bohemian in a tribal print silk maxi skirt by Lotta Stenssen, teamed with a black tank top & feather dream catcher necklace & brown ankle boots, both by Free People
Miranda Kerr's breezy summery look includes a red printed shirtdress, worn with a Panama hat, Miu Miu sunnies, a Balmain bag and flat T-bar sandals.
Jamie Chung was spotted wearing the high-low hem trend in this simplistic chic black tank dress, coupled with grey suede boots.

Summer Sorbet
Model and DJ Bip Ling styled up her iridescent sky blue asymmetrical Christian Dior dress with a hot pink bag and matching heels.
The Saturday's Mollie King is minty fresh in a Jaeger flouro-tweed shift dress, perfectly contrasted with apricot shaded pointy-toe pumps.
Julianne Hough makes the most of a waist cut-out and peplum frill in this peachy-orange Naven halter-frock, worn with Oscar Tiye metallic pumps.

Glam Gamble
Maggie Gyllenhaal risks referencing 'Black Swan' in this feathery Dries van Noten frock, featuring a simple black bodice and asymmetrically shaped skirt.
Hayden Panettiere takes a fashion gamble in this bow-decked Giorgio Armani ensemble with silver-grey top and chic black cigarette pants. Metallic tasseled heels complete her look.
Sarah Jessica Parker pays tribute to the 20's in this shimmering metallic silver fringe-tiered mini by Naeem Khan. I am a little uninspired by her black pumps.

Mad About Hue
Ali Larter wears a flirty red and white printed dress with fringed skirt by CH Carolina Herrera.
Natalie Portman is radiant in a red sweetheart-neck Dior dress with cerise high-low hem.
Kristan Ritter does whimsy well in this adorable bird and flower printed dress with yellow peplum frill, which is by Thakoon.
Crystal Reed looked elegant in a lime green Ted Baker halter neck dress.
Louise Roe is zesty in a Sjobeck lemon print silk shirt dress, accessorized with a matching clutch and neutral wedges.
Swedish model Helen Svedin wears emerald green with grace, in a streamlined Stella McCartney gown featuring sexy cut-out sides.

See Right Through It

Trendspotting
Transparent Bags

In reality, if you had to carry around a see-through plastic bag with all the contents of your handbag, people may assume your actual bag has suffered some sort of drink spill somewhere or, that you're homeless. However, put a designer name onto that plastic bag and voila, you're an instant trendsetter! Transparent bags have become quite the style statement over the past year. Let's delve further into this translucent trend.

On The Runway
It all began where most trends do - on the runways of top notch designers during fashion week. For Spring/Summer 2013, Valentino and Jenny Packham presented clear coloured bags decked with studs and jewels. Stella McCartney sent down jewel toned box bags while Chanel ensured their version displayed their world famous insignia. Fendi introduced transparent panels to their tri-coloured totes. Simone Rocha, Marc Jacobs and Burberry saturated their see-through bags with vivid colour for a fun, youthful effect. As good as this trend looks on the catwalk, I have to assume it's because all the bags are completely empty.

See-Through Street Style Inspiration

The trend then spread like wildfire across the world's fashion capitals and beyond, seen on the arms of socialites, models, fashion week groupies, bloggers, editors and stylists. Each of them allowing photographers and the general public a glimpse into their clear clutches. A pair of sunglasses, an iPhone, all important press passes and some form of Chanel makeup is always seen peeking through these plastic purses. I assume that one has to carefully and fashion-consciously edit the content of their bags when opting for transparency.

This is how the see-through trend has been worn in true street style...

Celebrity Translucent Trendsetters

The see-through bag trend hasn't caught on to Hollywood as much as it has the rest of world, with just a handful of celebrities seen carrying their plastic hopes and dreams around. I am guessing this is to avert crazy stalkers and maintain their privacy. And also to avoid the inquisitive masses with a cover of their bag's contents on People magazine.

Bella Thorne wears a youthful neon yellow Juicy Couture clutch with chain handle. Sienna Miller carries a peach lined Charlotte Olympia perspex purse. Solange Knowles vivifies her look with a tangerine CC Skye lucite box bag.

Elisabeth Moss holds on to a Charlotte Olympia 'Pandora' perspex clutch. British model Abbey Clancy carries a see-through monogrammed Louis Vuitton bag. Olivia Palermo represents the high street with an orange tinted Zara minaudiere.

Get With The Trend

Try on the transparency trend with these pellucid online picks. A bright hued clutch will add a vibrant dash of colour to your outfit, whilst slightly shading in your bag's constituents. If you're the fashion-forward type, go all out and wear a clear clutch, where you will be guaranteed to make a few curious heads turn as you walk by, all eager to see what's inside your trendy tote.

Do you Adore or Abhor the Transparent Bag Trend?
Would you be comfortable letting the rest of world see what you carry in your bag?

Vivetta Spring/Summer 2013

Take a walk down the Vivetta garden path this season, where you will be welcomed by a bouquet of daisies, candy stripes, cats and clouds of imagination, all wrapped up by dainty bows and quaint hand motifs. Vivetta Ponti may a name that is new to us all, but her eclectic influences and whimsical designs unsure it's one that you won't easily forget.

The Italian designer soaks up inspiration from vintage children's books and dolls, retro style icons, the 50's and 60's, surrealism, French new wave, experimental animation and anything animal related. Talk about thinking outside the box, Vivetta brings together modern silhouettes with vintage appreciation and a whole lot of quirk.

For Spring/Summer 2013, the Vivetta girl frolics around in delicate silk organdy dresses, printed cotton frocks and feminine lace maxi's. The slightest blush of pink, whispers of blue, and a pitcher of lemonade are pieced together with navy blue and black to create this exuberant range. Fifties style bow-decked prom dresses are aligned with quilted coats and nautical inspired shifts. Ombré pastels and transparent rain coats meet up with twee teddy bear skirts and a field of daisy adorned looks.

Fall into a dreamy summer daze with Vivetta's Spring/Summer 2013 collection.

Petra Nemcova for Marie Claire Mexico

Cover Girl Petra Nemcova
Marie Claire Mexico
June 2013

A Czech supermodel on a Latin American magazine cover, in a range of French and Italian clothing...such is the global fashion village. The stunning Petra Nemcova is lensed by Juanjo Molina for a summer style spread in the June 2013 issue of Marie Claire Mexico.

The checkered trend continues...Petra is sunny in a yellow and white block print cropped coat and maxi skirt by Louis Vuitton, for the accessories cover of Marie Claire Mexico.

On the main cover, Petra is fringed in a metallic pewter flapper-esque dress by Nina Ricci.

The 33-year-old beauty is decked in a chocolate brown leather and cotton dress with eyelet belt and imposing knee-high gladiator boots, both by Salvatore Ferragamo. She carries a woven leather bag by Bottega Veneta and wears shades by Lunettes Kollektion.

Styled in a look by Lebanon's most famous export, Elie Saab - Petra is elegant in a striped cotton and lycra maxi gown, splashed with a paint tray of bright shades.

Springing into summer, Petra is vibrant in a turquoise, purple & white silk mini dress with oversized sleeves by Gucci. Her matching metallic leather sandals are by Jimmy Choo.

A difficult look for anyone to wear, but for supermodels, a forest green floral emblem Prada coat paired with a brassiere and knickers is like a walk in the park. She holds a violet leather Kara Ross clutch...because such a look wouldn't be complete without one ;)

The summer jumpsuit trend is conveyed by this hippie-chic pocketed paisley print Etro look. Petra's burgundy leather bag is by Miu Miu. Her futuristic yellow and gold metallic sandals with perspex heels are by Michael Kors. Do you think this pair will ever catch on?

Petra is beautifully romantic in one of Alice + Olivia's most popular SS13 dresses - a white embroidered silk frock with feather trimmed A-line skirt. Her interesting pair of black patent leather and see-through mesh shoes are by Jason Wu.

Although this was not one of the stand out looks to me from Chanel's Spring/Summer 2013 range, I love the styling of this multi-coloured tweed dress in the photo shoot. The nipped-in waist does a world of difference, so does the endearing straw hat from Forever 21. Her necklaces are by Massimo Dutti, with a black leather bag by US based designer, Kara Ross.

One of my personal favourite runway looks from Blumarine - a fluid chiffon maxi dress in dulcet shades of lavender, aqua, cream and lemon - is brought to life in this cinematic shot. A classic black quilted Chanel bag accessorizes Petra's pretty summer outfit.

Which of Petra's editorial looks would best suit your own style?

Friday Frills

Life is crazy,
And totally unpredictable...
It's going to push you over,
Kick you while you're down
And hit you when you try to get back up.

Not everything can beat you.
Things are going to change you,
But you get to choose which ones you let change you.

Listen to your heart,
Follow your dreams,
And let no one tell you what you're capable of.

Push the limits,
Bend the rules,
And enjoy every minute of it.
Laugh at everything,
And take things in your stride.

Give freely of your love,
But not of your trust.
Believe in yourself,
And never lose faith in others.
Settle for nothing but only the best,
And give 110% in everything you do.

Take risks,
Live on the edge,
Yet stay safe,
And cherish every moment of it.

Life is a gift,
Appreciate all the rewards,
And jump on every opportunity.

Not everyone's going to love you
But who needs them anyways.
Challenge everything,
And fight for what you believe in.
Back down to nothing,
But give in to the little things in life,
After all, that is what makes you.

Forget the unnecessary,
But remember everything,
Bring it with you everywhere you go.

Learn something new,
And appreciate criticism.
Hate nothing,
But dislike what you want.
Never forget where you came from,
And always remember where you are going.

Live Life to its fullest,
And have a reason for everything,
Even if it's totally insane.
Find Your purpose in life...
And Live it!

The RVN 'It' Dress

One of this season's most popular dress comes in a fitted mini silhouette, with a trendy jacquard geo-textured print from New York based brand RVN. The optical illusion dress has been seen on over 15 different starlets (and counting), in a range of duo-tone shades.

Besides just celebrities, this prismatic print dress has been a massive hit with the average girl as well, being sold out on several websites and also a favored choice at Rent The Runway. Click on the links to see how stylish everyday fashionista's wore their RVN 'It' dress. For $75, you too can rent a part of this geometric fashion frenzy.

RVN's Geo Signature bodycon dress retails for $395,
It is sold in four sizes and three colour combinations.
It comes in both a round high-neckline with cap sleeves and with a strappy crew neck.

Who Wore RVN Better?

The Black & White Edition

The black & white version of the RVN geometric print jacquard dress has been the most popular with celebrities. Each of them selected to style their mini with slight variation. Cher Lloyd went for a Christian Louboutin Mary-Jane flower pump and pop of red with an Onch poison apple necklace. Both Kristin Chenoweth and Tiffani Thiessen opted for open-toe booties, while Smash star Megan Hilty wore peep toe sandals. Rumer Willis picked a pair of cap-toed flats to wear with her RVN dress and Jamie Chung wore pointy-toe pumps.

This geo-patterned dress has also been popular on Celebrity's Instagram accounts.
Disney's Zendaya Coleman and Kylie Jenner wore the black and white edition of the fitted mini dress with simple styling, while singer/actress Tamar Braxton paired her scoop-neck, inverted colour version of the dress with a slick black blazer.

The Verdict: I prefer the dress styled by Cher Lloyd, I liked her choice of flower-trimmed shoes and the pop of red with the cute bitten apple necklace.

The Blue & White Edition
Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh teamed her RVN blue & white dress with white sandals.
Jessica Szhor showed off her toned figure in the Aztec inspired look, with black sandals.
Heather Graham took to the streets of Brazil in her RVN mini with bright blue strappy heels.

The Verdict: With a choice of white, black and blue heels, I liked Kimberley's white pair but I prefer the fit of the dress on Jessica. Could they swop shoes perhaps?

The Orange & Black Edition
Songstress Amy Heidemann wears the orange and black version of the geo-print dress with whimsical feather trimmed heels by Jimmy Choo, black bangles and a clutch bag.
Ashley Tisdale styled the famous RVN frock with black peep-toe sandals & a Prada clutch.
Reality personality Angela Simmons wears the scoop-neck version of this RVN dress with caged Manolo Blahnik sandals.

The Verdict: I like the chic styling of Ashley Tisdale's outfit.

Do you think that this geometric 'It' dress is worth all the hype?
Which colour version and styling do you prefer?

Rami Kadi Couture Spring/Summer 2013

If we could all live our own real life fairytale, it would surely be in a Rami Kadi couture gown. This season, the imaginative Lebanese designer has cultivated his fashion seeds into a blossoming flower garden, with a charming collection entitled, 'Les Jardins Suspendus'.

Rami's set of cake-topper dresses are decadently dusted with layers of guipure lace, shaped from billowing drapes in satin and silk organza, encircled by rows of ruffles and veiled with airy mists of tulle. The spellbinding gowns are seen in a summer breeze of icy blue hues, soft romantic pinks, florid sprays of lemon and lavender, a splash of citrus orange, mint & vanilla.

Rami Kadi creates ethereal silhouettes that truly define all that is feminine; from slinky fit column gowns to intricate floral embroidered ballroom skirts that sweep the floor and make a statement with their sheer volume and resplendent glissading beauty.

Enchanting up to the very last frill, these are the dresses my dreams are made of.
Here is a glance into the magical world of Rami Kadi Couture.
