Same Dress, Different Shade

Which Marc Jacobs Dress Do You Prefer?
Pink or Blue?

This aqua Marc Jacobs Resort 2012 dress made it's debut on the red carpet earlier this year, worn by the lovely Elle Fanning. 6 months later, Fan Bing Bing wore the same dress, which has been revived in a blushing shade of bubblegum pink. Two very different stars, on two opposite sides of the planet...Who wears it better?

Fan Bing Bing looked radiant at a movie premiere in South Korea this week (13 December). The Asian actress wore the Marc Jacobs sheer tulle dress, which is delicately adorned with a scattering of shaded pink floral appliqués. A red leather belt defined her waist, while sky-high nude Louboutin Mary-Janes were her choice of footwear.
Australian model Julia Nobis displayed the dress as part of Marc Jacobs' Resort 2012 collection. She was styled with a white belt and blue shimmery heels. You can see the transparent effect of the dress is this photograph, whereas the others have been modified for the red carpet.
Elle Fanning wore the dreamy sea blue version of the dress for the 'Women in Film' awards on 16 June in Beverly Hills. The floral motifs on her dress are a lighter shade of blue. Elle left out the belt and added a fun pop of colour with coral Chanel sling-backs.

I prefer (and not because pink is my colour) Fan's dress more. It fits her better and that red belt was a winning choice. Though I'm not too keen on the heavy platforms heels. If Elle had added a belt, it would have made a huge difference. Which version of the Marc Jacobs dress do you prefer, Pink or Blue?

The pink one! Looks better on and the color is prettier :)

I completely agree. The blue is that exact shade that kinda washes you out...and I like the accessorizing with the pink dress better!

i like the blue shade better, but for some reason the length doesnt look right to me. it looks much better on the model. it falls above the knee which i think looks a lot better.

I didn't like it on either of them though I liked the addition of the coral sling backs by Elle

I like the original dress version on Julia best, I think it is much better with the knee bearing uneven hem and it definitely needs the belt.

I really like the dress on Julia Nobis best. Her belt and shoes are perfect with it.

i like the blue one, it's such a gorgeous color! it's added inches to Elle Fanning waist and hence not complimenting her figure,Fan and the model look good, because it fits them nicely! x

I share your point of view as well :)
Though I like blue and definitely the blue looks nicer than the pick, however, it just make Elle Fanning looks chubby.
The belt is really a critical point for the dress.

Therefore, love Fan Bing Bing's outfit.

Love from Hong Kong.

I'm not sure which I like the dress best on! Elle does wear it so elegantly, so I guess I choose her. She is my favourite dresser at the moment after all.
Would you like to follow eachother?

I agree with you, I prefer Fan's version! I love both colors, and I agree that the red belt made a huge difference... Elle looks so pale without a belt, although the dress is lovely in blue too. I want the pink version, though; I love Marc Jacobs!

Super beautiful dresses!!! Love the pink one and how she is wearing it. I adore the blue one to but for some reason i really don't like how it looks on Elle, which is strange because i always think she look beautiful in what ever she wears! Great great post sweetheart!!

Take care,Daniella xox

I think the model looks best in this dress as well. Though if I had to pick...I'd pick Fan's. Mainly because of the belt, which helps to give the dress a bit more shape. It's a very lovely dress, but the shape it creates is difficult to be flattering on anyone without the right accessories!

I personally like the dress on the model in the middle the best. It looks slightly frumpy on Elle and Fan, but they don't normally look frumpy. I think if they let their hair down, it would counter the effect more. :)

ftashion said...

My vote goes to Fan's pink dress too! The dress seems to make Elle look stumpy, or is it the photo? lol.

I think Fan Bing Bing looks better in the dress, possibly because she had the belt. Elle Fanning looks cute but that dress doesn't look as good without a belt. However, I prefer the blue shade myself, even though I like the colour pink.

I prefer the blue dress, although I have to admit it looks a bit loose on Elle.
I really like the catwalk version.

Danielle @ VintageDanielle said...

I prefer the middle blue dress worn by Julia. It just seems to be fitted and worn the best way.

Marianne M. said...

I like the pink dress more cause as you've said the belt adds a nice touch and it defines the waist which elle's dress fails to do. elle's dress seems a bit childish-fairy like to me.
