Get The Alexa Chung Look

The Savvy Girl's Guide To…
Alexa Chung's Style

Ask any fashion blogger to rate her favourite style icons and Alexa Chung's name will surely list as one of the top choices. This DJing, modeling, socializing, tv presenting half-British half-Chinese beauty has uniquely carved a niche in the fashion world, where everything she wears turns to gold. She wavers from feminine to tomboy style with a snap of perfectly manicured fingernail. Alexa lists sixties actress Jane Birkin as her style inspiration, who provides her with 'the confidence to dress like a boy but act like a girl'. This It-Girl values comfort over trends, which is refreshing to see in an A-list society that produces one carbon copy after the other.

What I like about Alexa's style is that she steers away from the norm. Instead of fussy dresses, caked makeup, rigidly sprayed hair and ankle-breaking heels, Alexa prefers messy tresses with a fresh natural face, preppy layers with a decisive 60's vibe about it and she almost always wears flats on the red carpet. How many other celebrities would have the courage to do that?

Alexa's Closet Essentials

I was inspired to compile this post after seeing Cindy Mangomini's fantastic illustration of all the 'Alexa Essentials'.

How To Get The Alexa Chung Look

This is my guide on how to get Alexa Chung's effortlessly chic street style in a few simple key sets. If you have these essentials in your closet, you will easily be able to recreate Alexa's coveted style, adding your own spin to it. Her outfits are quite formulaic, she has perfected how to dress exceptionally and this is how…

Floral Dresses
Alexa's summer staple are feminine and floaty floral dresses in eye-catching prints and colours that are paired with basket or sling bags, flat strappy sandals and shades.

The Breton Striped Top
Season after season, we have seen Alexa wear a classic black and white or red Breton striped top. She has casually teamed it with denim cut-off shorts, skinny jeans, sneakers and boots. She has also worn a dress version of this linear print.

Skirts & Sweaters
The key to this It-Girl's semi formal style is pairing a chic knit sweater with a patterned skirt, either fitted or flaired. She has reused this fashion template time and time again with stellar results. Black pointy flats, Peter Pan collars and coats accompany her sweater & skirt sets.

Boho Chic
Alexa rules the festival scene with her fabulous range of layered indie chic outfits. She favors cropped lace tops, fedoras, denim shorts, khaki parkas, Converse sneakers & Hunter boots.

The Denim Dungaree
The 30-year-old maintains a youthful style stance by wearing denim dungarees, cropped, long and in dress form. She keeps it simple with trench coats, lace-up espadrilles and buttoned shirts.

Glimmer Girl
Whilst Alexa doesn't lean towards the flashy and flamboyant, she does occasionally wear high gloss metallics, which she combines with more low key pieces to casually balance it out.

Little Black Dresses
I love that Alexa can rock a designer Valentino or Carven little black dress on the red carpet with flat shoes and unkempt tresses. Winged Eyeko liner add defined to her eyes, whilst she blends Chanel Sublimage cream to her cheeks for a subtle sheen.

Leopardess
This socialites signature style would be incomplete if I didn't mention leopard print. Her fondness for this animalistic trend extends to coats, ankle boots and bags. Alexa pairs her leopardess looks with basic white, white and grey.

Leather Loving
Adding to her edgy androgynous style is sleek black leather, in the form of sexy mini skirts and shorts. Alexa always keeps her styling sophisticated with a fleecy jumper or prim white shirt.

Street Style - Paris Fashion Week Fall 2014

Street Style
Paris Fashion Week
Fall/Winter 2014

The whirlwind that was fashion week is sadly behind us, but we take from it many incredibly style memories that will inspire our closets for months to come.
This is the final segment in my Fashion Week Street Style coverage where we head to the City of Lights and all things beautiful, Paris.  Throughout the last 4 weeks, we've seen the socialites, models, stylists and editors, but in my opinion (and I'm not being biased here), the bloggers honestly have the best style. Please click on the images for a larger view.

Cerise Breeze
Whereas pastel pink was all the rage in the other fashion capitals, Paris gave us a new saturated spin on the colour trend in a luscious cerise pink. Suit it, skirt it, shirt it or bag it, this shade is bound to make a striking statement in any way. It's one of my all-time favourite hues.

Checking In
It seems we have not seen the last of the checked print trend this season. Here we have some stellar coats, pants and skirts to end the plaid craze on a high note.

Leopard Loving
Leopard prints have become truly timeless in the past few years. Buy yourself one modish overcoat and you will be set for seasons to come. Even just a leo-printed bag or snazzy pair of ankle boots will add volumes of style to your outfit. I love how the Parisians have selected to pair it with red.

In Distress
Distressed Denim made many chic appearances during PFW, taking the lead from where skinnies and wide-legs left off. These nifty ripped pieces have been styled with oversized coats, chunky knits, trenches and heels.

La Bohéme
French Bohemia is beautifully narrated through a set of ethnic inspired looks in a luxuriant contrast of plush fabrics, engaging textures and baroque prints.

Scarlett Fever
The City of Love was painted red by a radiant cliqué of jumpers and jackets that require no elaborate styling.
A colour this loud certainly speaks for itself.

La Belle Vie
A feminine mix of feathers and midi skirts signify the glamour of Paris Fashion Week, with beautiful looks that can be taken from the sidewalk to nearest high society soiree in 0-5 seconds.

Winter Whites
I was not there, so I don't know...but the weather must have been pretty great in Paris, as these winter whites honestly don't look very wintery. But even in a chilly 12 °C, all white is always impeccably elegant. Wear it chalky head to heel or break it up with snazzy bright shoes and accessories.

Print Palette
These graphic graffiti prints from Céline, along with vibrant stripes and florals brought an interesting splash of colour and spice to the dull grey-skyed city.

Leatherettes
There are so many ways to leather and not look like you belong in a hard rock band. These ladies have lent a ladylike touch to traditional black leather, with flaired skirts and slick leggings worn with metallic blazers. Append a leather biker jacket and grungy boots to your floral maxi dress for a boho rock effect or get pastelized with a pink leather quilted coat.

Suit Yourself
The suit trend we saw in Milan has journeyed with grace to the streets of Paris, seen with cropped tops, trousers and jackets and teamed with either sneakers or heels.

Parisian Chic
Parisian sophistication is conveyed by relaxed-fit silhouettes, refined layering and once-clichéd breton stripes in this effortlessly chic set of outfits.

Colour Pops
Using black as a foundation, these savvy fashionistas added a bold dash of pigment to their looks, rendering a modern and impactful slant on the formally outworn colour-block trend.

Street Style - Milan Fashion Week Fall 2014

Street Style
Milan Fashion Week
Fall 2014

The heat has been turned up in Milan, and I'm not talking about the weather unfortunately. This fashion week, a glamourous spin on street style has been brought to us by the world's biggest stylists, socialites and bloggers. The Italians certainly gave New York and London a run for their money in the designer clothing department, there were labels Everywhere. These are a collection of trends to inspire our own winter wardrobes.

Red Alert
These traffic-stopping looks have been some of my favourite from Milan Fashion week, with red being depicted in different and unique ways. A ladylike crimson mini, a neon shift with Fendi fur coat and eye-popping plastic heels, a stunning tulle maxi skirt styled with a moto-jacket, a trendy tartan dress and a fringed rocker frock.

Hot Fuzz
Fringe, feathers and fur (hopefully all faux) have texturized street styles this fashion week with a fuzzy heap of lush coats, scarves and vests to keep the cold at bay.

Gilded Girls
The Italian fashion pack cemented their glamourous style status by showing us how to artfully wear shiny gold metallics during the day. I love the second look with burgundy coat, sequined skirt and aqua heels.

Suited Up
There is probably nothing chicer than an Italian-cut suit and these ladies have certainly taken heed of that, displaying sophisticated menswear-inspired suits, styled with leather loafers, sneakers and simple tees.

The Right Stripes
Stripes were the go-to print during MFW, with a multitude of fashionistas opting for the linear look, showcasing vertical and horizontally striped coats, trousers, skirts and shirts. These are some great styling ideas on how to wear stripes in a new and modern way.

Minimalistic Chic
Taking a breather from all the extravagance off and on the catwalk, these minimalistic outfits present chic wearability in the highest degree.

Pattern Play
Leave it to MFW to visually engage us with a jazzy array of eclectic and electrifying prints.

Tough Luxe
The fine line between femininity is blurred by these toughened up jet-black outfits that bring leather and goth luxe to the forefront.

Pastelletic
Pretty pastel pink and powder blue looks made a saccharine splash at Milan Fashion Week with chunky knits, overcoats, dresses & skirts. Wear it all in the same subdued palette or break it up with dark or light neutrals.

Colourful Coats
If you were not convinced by brights in my last two fashion week posts, this one ought to seal the deal, because vibrantly bright coats are In. A Very Big Way. Try your hand at this popular trend by pairing a solid coloured coat with neutrals & heels. Marigold yellow was a favored choice, with sightings of red, purple & blue.

Street Style - London Fashion Week Fall 2014

London Fashion Week
Fall/Winter 2014
Street Style

I always look forward to the creativity that comes with London street style during fashion week. Many of the trends we saw in New York have been stretched out across the pond, and along with it, a whole new stack of cutting-edge ideas have emerged. These are a few eye-catching outfits I've collected from the streets of London Fashion Week.

London Brights
The very popular bright shaded coat trend has spread it's vivacity to London with great animation. It takes a certain amount of confidence to pull off such electric hues, but it's most certainly worth the camera flashes.

Leopardess
Add a dash of leopard print to your everyday outfit as these ladies did. The easiest way to incorporate this print is via bags, boots and shoes. Invest in an animal print dress or coat for a more brazen urban jungle look.

Off The Grid
Forget tartan, it was grid prints that made a graphic splash at LFW. This bold checked pattern was seen on everything from coats to skirts, scarves, dresses and pants. Wear it head-to-toe for an impactful look or break up with plains for a more toned down version of the trend. A vibrant bag will add the perfect dose of colour.

Midi Mode
Another popular fashion week trend are midi skirts, seen in pretty hues and prints. It can be dressed up with a pair of heels and elegant blazer, or kept casual with a parka and cozy sweater.

Camel Coats
The classic camel coat is given the London makeover with slick styling. Wear with pinstriped shirts & cropped pants, ripped boyfriend jeans or even a sassy pair of shorts. Stilettos are a must to glam up the allover look.

Chic Modernity
Building the perfect modern day outfit begins with the perceptive use of layers a play on proportions and different textures. Spice with interesting accessories like hats and metallics.

Lady Luxe
I love the pairing of dainty lace pencil skirts and delicate blouses with hardy leather jackets and structured coats. This feminine blend of pretty pastels cleverly merges sheers, cashmere and woolen knits.

Pink Fever
The pink coat trend isn't going away anytime soon, so it's best to get onto the rose-tinted bandwagon and use these chic looks as styling inspiration.

Boy Meets Girl
Androgynous dressing takes the lead in the trend sets with an intriguing array of masculine inspired outfits, tweaked by feminine styling. Oversized overcoats, tailored blazers, languid trousers, prim buttoned shirts and knitted pullovers are mingled with loose locks, high heels and trendy totes.

Colour Code
The city streets were lit up by a divergence of beautiful brights, lending us exciting new colour combinations.

Street Style - New York Fashion Week FW14

New York Fashion Week
Fall/Winter 2014
Street Style

Our favourite bloggers, socialites, models and fashion editors have styled up a storm at New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014. I have gathered up some of the most outstanding looks and interesting new street wear trends worn during the week. Whatever your type of style, you will surely find something to inspire your winter wardrobe here.

Bright Coats
Hang up your faithful black coat and colour in the cold season with something more electric as seen on the colourful streets of New York Fashion Week.

Prep School
Collegiate style is defined in different ways, blending school-like skirts, preppy sweaters, polished blazers and collared shirts with precision and modernity.

Hue York
A refreshing ray of saffron yellow, cobalt blue and rich ruby captured my attention in the sea of grays and black. Whether in solids or in prints, these three shades work superbly well together.

The Sweater Set
Take your cable knit sweater one step further by turning it into a high style item. Wear it under an oversized coat or pinafore dress or layer it with a sheer skirt and pants.

In The Pink
The Big Apple was painted in pink by this seasons most popular shade in variances from bright carnation to delicate rose. I didn't realize the versatility and wearability of a pink winter overcoat until now.

Sneaker Scene
Swap your heels for sneakers, because comfort seems to be 'in' this season. Wear them with long graceful coats and ankle-cropped trousers, throw in a woolen beanie & cozy scarf to complete this sporty luxe look.

Fine Lines
Geometric lines were seen in all forms from boldly striped dresses to colour-blocked jackets and pin-striped suit coats. A dash of vivid red amped up these linear looks.

Luxe Layering
These creative ladies show us how layering should be done, without reservation and with piles of style.

Minimal Monotones
Chic minimalism was depicted in classic tones of gray, black and white.

Powdered Pastels
The subtlety of pastel shaded outfits were a welcomed sight at NY Fashion Week, with a breeze of petal pink fuzzy jackets and powder blue furry coats and sweaters.

Distressed Denim
If there was ever a time to buy a pair of distressed denim boyfriend jeans, it would be now. With a multitude of ways to them, these ripped pairs can be dressed up with heels, clutch bags and tailored coats or simmered down with beanies, sweatshirts and boots.

Midi Skirt Manic
Midi skirts are here to stay with pretty picks in peach tulle, tapestry florals and pleats. They are paired with nifty sweatshirts, biker jackets, tights and ankle boots.
