Street Style - New York Fashion Week FW14

New York Fashion Week
Fall/Winter 2014
Street Style

Our favourite bloggers, socialites, models and fashion editors have styled up a storm at New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014. I have gathered up some of the most outstanding looks and interesting new street wear trends worn during the week. Whatever your type of style, you will surely find something to inspire your winter wardrobe here.

Bright Coats
Hang up your faithful black coat and colour in the cold season with something more electric as seen on the colourful streets of New York Fashion Week.

Prep School
Collegiate style is defined in different ways, blending school-like skirts, preppy sweaters, polished blazers and collared shirts with precision and modernity.

Hue York
A refreshing ray of saffron yellow, cobalt blue and rich ruby captured my attention in the sea of grays and black. Whether in solids or in prints, these three shades work superbly well together.

The Sweater Set
Take your cable knit sweater one step further by turning it into a high style item. Wear it under an oversized coat or pinafore dress or layer it with a sheer skirt and pants.

In The Pink
The Big Apple was painted in pink by this seasons most popular shade in variances from bright carnation to delicate rose. I didn't realize the versatility and wearability of a pink winter overcoat until now.

Sneaker Scene
Swap your heels for sneakers, because comfort seems to be 'in' this season. Wear them with long graceful coats and ankle-cropped trousers, throw in a woolen beanie & cozy scarf to complete this sporty luxe look.

Fine Lines
Geometric lines were seen in all forms from boldly striped dresses to colour-blocked jackets and pin-striped suit coats. A dash of vivid red amped up these linear looks.

Luxe Layering
These creative ladies show us how layering should be done, without reservation and with piles of style.

Minimal Monotones
Chic minimalism was depicted in classic tones of gray, black and white.

Powdered Pastels
The subtlety of pastel shaded outfits were a welcomed sight at NY Fashion Week, with a breeze of petal pink fuzzy jackets and powder blue furry coats and sweaters.

Distressed Denim
If there was ever a time to buy a pair of distressed denim boyfriend jeans, it would be now. With a multitude of ways to them, these ripped pairs can be dressed up with heels, clutch bags and tailored coats or simmered down with beanies, sweatshirts and boots.

Midi Skirt Manic
Midi skirts are here to stay with pretty picks in peach tulle, tapestry florals and pleats. They are paired with nifty sweatshirts, biker jackets, tights and ankle boots.

Which of these sets from New York Fashion Week have inspired your own style?

Who Wore Valentino Better?

Who Wore It Better?
Valentino Fall/Winter 2013-14
Ivory Embroidered Dress

This Valentino FW13 dress has worked its way from an LA awards show to an NYC movie premiere and all the way to Europe for a chic casual outing. Featuring an embroidered wool bodice and bell-shaped skirt, high neck with mesh inset and cuffed tulle sleeves, this exquisite dress will go down as a classic in Valentino's hall of fame.

Retailing for a whopping $13 000 (yes 3 zeros), this Valentino dress has been a popular pick amongst the young and stylish...

1. Girls actress Allison Williams looked elegant at the MTV Awards in the ivory embroidered mini dress, choosing to wear her hair up and pairing it with metallic Christian Louboutin shoes.
2. British model Atlanta de Cadenet was spotted styling up the streets of Paris in the cream embroidered dress, selecting to keep on the scalloped neck collar as seen on the runway. Atlanta carried a see-through clutch and vivified her look with red lips & strappy shoes.
3. Victoria's Secret model Lily Aldridge was an image of grace pictured in the same romantic wool/silk dress at a movie premiere in New York City. Lily had her hair in loose waves with a red hot lip and embroidered ruby heels to accessorize.
4. On the Valentino Fall/Winter 2013-14 runway, US model Juliana Schurig presented the richly embroidered dress with the scalloped bib attached. The scholastic silhouette was accented by a side braid and black headband, along with gloved T-bar block heels.

As for 'Who Wore It Better', I think it would be impossible for anyone to look bad in this tasteful dress. My vote goes to Lily, because she wears it so effortlessly (and she's one of my favourite models). But kudos to Atlanta for wearing this look out casually whilst the others saved it for the red carpet. Do you prefer this dress with or without the scalloped collar?

Who do you think wore this Valentino dress better?

Karolina Kurkova stunned in a black bead-trimmed Armani gown with slitted bodice and skirt.

Dimitri Spring/Summer 2014

European design is given a modern uplift by Italian-Greek designer Dimitrios Panagiotopoulos, better and more simply known as Dimitri. With his brand born in 2007, Dimitri lists Jil Sander, Hugo Boss and Vivienne Westwood as former employers, and if that doesn't speak volumes about his exceptional fashion background, then his designs most certainly will.

Dimitri outwardly dresses women with the same confidence and panache that they exude on the inside. For Spring/Summer 2014, power is handed over to the 21st century girl with self-assurance, in an array of brights - cobalt blue, aquamarine, citrine, raspberry, lemon and lime. Toned down by basic beiges and black, this compelling collection can be taken from the office to an evening out with a few key pieces.

Tailored blazers with cigarette trousers make those work days a little more elegant, and weekend wear is covered by chic cotton tops, peplum skater skirts, piquet shorts & digi-print leggings. Dimitri includes a few chunky knit sweaters to make the transition into Spring stylishly easy. Fit and flare chiffon cocktail dresses guarantee you a second look, accessorized with leather corset belts, two-tone totes, clutches & crochet necklaces also by the label.

This is a look at Dimitri's enthusiastically chic Spring/Summer 2014 collection.

The February Issues 2014

Cover Girls
February 2014

With February being my birthday month, it's only fashionably fair that I collected the most striking magazine covers to celebrate. This month sees many beautifully shot covers that colourfully sign in Spring with some of the best 2014 runway looks. Chanel, Valentino and Prada are exceedingly popular choices, along with a printed mix of brights and subdued pastels that cement Spring 2014 trends. These are my favourite February 2014 issues.

The exquisite Natasha Poly is prismatic on the cover of Vogue Japan, wearing a pop art printed dress with ruffled sleeves from Chanel's creative Spring/Summer 2014 collection.

French beauty Cindy Bruna lends her megawatt smile to the cover of Marie Claire Italy, posing in a graffiti painted black and white tank top and red brush-stroked skirt by Céline.

Harper's Bazaar Korea selected US supermodel Jacquelyn Jablonski to ring in Spring with a dulcet powder blue Burberry Prorsum lace coat decked with green jeweled embellishings. The look is sadly styled without the pink runway belt, but with a large straw hat.

Naomie Harris dazzles on the cover of Harper's Bazaar Arabia wearing a coral embroidered long-sleeved lace playsuit by famed designer Elie Saab.

Harper's Bazaar Spain turns our attention to Prada's whimsical mural face painted dress with emerald and gold embellished bodice as modeled by France's Julia Frauche.

Cover veteran Karolina Kurkova extends her star power to the cover of Harper's Bazaar Singapore in a kaleidoscopic paint palette one-shouldered dress by Chanel

Upcoming Chinese model Le Wei colours in the cover of Glamour France with a bold paint splashed oversized shirt from Céline's Spring/Summer 2014 line.

Vogue Ukraine settles on a romantic threshold into Spring, with Isabeli Fontana on the cover in a beautiful floral appliquéd mesh dress by Dolce & Gabbana.

Keira Knightley returns to the spotlight with a triumphant feature on Harper's Bazaar UK. The English actress poses for two cover shots, both in rainbow printed dresses from Chanel's increasingly popular artsy Spring 2014 range.

The ethereal Ola Rudnicka stays on home turf for her stint on the cover of Elle Poland. She wears a rose pink lips-hearts-&-matches crystal studded dress by Stella McCartney. Her ash blonde locks and deep berry lips are by far my favourite makeup/hair look of the month.

Russian model Anna Selezneva gains attention on the cover of Vogue Mexico with her piercing blue eyes, mirrored by this sky blue Miu Miu frock with beaded fringing.

Valentino should be proud to crown a trio of magazine covers this month, with beautiful folksy dresses from their Spring 2014 range. From left: Mariacarla Boscono in an aqua & coral embroidered gown for Glamour Italy. Zooey Deschanel dons a sheer bohemian printed look on the cover of Elle US. And lastly, Finnish model Suvi Koponen is notable on the cover of Vogue Germany wearing a fringed cape and matching tribal embroidered dress.

Daria Werbowy graces Harper's Bazaar US in an intriguing Proenza Schouler criss-cross cut-out monochrome dress with metallic pleated skirt. The angles and detail of this dress photographs brilliantly, making it a memorable cover choice.

Holland's Marthe Wiggers brings a girly playfulness to the cover of Spur Japan with her doll like features and voluminous crimped hair. She wears a lemon and blue embroidered petal pink shift dress by Stella McCartney Resort 2014.

Sarah Jessica Parker is eye-catching on the cover of InStyle USA, wearing a glitzy blue and green beaded corset dress by Prada with rainbow motif/ face printed skirt.

Based only on the cover shot, which of these February 2014 fashion magazines would you pick up first?
