Friday Frills

Everyone wants success, and yet they often don’t
know when they have it.
For most, it is the maddening chase toward a better way of life.
An aim to achieve more of something.
More fame, power, recognition, money or material things.

For some, it is the understanding of a loving family member, the compassion of a friend
or people that they can count on when life throws them a curve.

I've come to believe that success is not more material wealth,
But peace, happiness, contentment, and love.

Real success is not to be sought after in the outer world,
But discovered in your inner world.
We all want the things that life offers.
But we don’t need as much as we think we do.

Sooner or later you will discover that real success is friends,
strangers, and anyone who crosses our path and makes a difference in it.
It is kindness shared, support given and received,
 it's listening, giving and caring.

These will endure while you change jobs, swop cities, trade-in cars, when fashions fade,
and you tire of the temporary gratifications that bring you what you think is real.

What matters is people.
What lasts is love.
What counts are true friends,
And if you treasure these you can count yourself a success.

  1. success is such a hard thing to define for most people. but yes, great friends and great love can sum it up simply.

  25. Hi Sam! I have been caught into your words:) What a deep and so true thought today:) you are right, I think also that sometimes we took these things for granted, feeling not satiesfied and searching for other stuff that we think could make us happier..but I agree with you, at the end love, friends, good relationship is what counts, more we are surrounded by them more we will feel satiesfied and living a full life:) Happy friday my friend! Hugs!!:***

  26. This is such a great reminder for all of us - when things go wrong we realize how much we need our friends, family, and such real "treasures" in our lives. Otherwise we easily forget their true value. Thanks for this!

  27. It's so real . While chasing success , we actually lose it . And teh fact is that the success is the thing that chase us until we figure it out.

  32. This is SO true! I admit that when I make a wish/say a little prayer for me or a loved one, I always wish for peace and contentment. My husband is a true believer in this as well. He has been fortunate enough to now find himself in a field that provides him with comfort financially, but he really wants to be happy and fulfilled at the end of the day no matter what the pay!

  47. What a beautiful post to end the week with. I so totally agree with you. If we just try to collect more and more materially, we soon tire of what we have and want even more and it's a never-ending circle of stress. The people I love and the memories created with them are what bring me the most happiness. Have a lovely weekend! xoxo ~S

  50. I couldn't agree more. I was just having the same conversation about this topic the other day with someone else. So many people are all about money and power.. but what truly matters is the personal human connections with people which make up the important things in life :) keep in touch~

well said babe, we always think that we need stuff and we overlook the important things in life! we should be thankful for what we have already, not the materialistic aspects!
