Who Wore Roksanda Ilincic Better?

Who Wore It Better?
Roksanda Ilincic 'Izumi' Dress

We don't usually see the same dress worn in the same week, let alone two days apart. However, both actress Marisa Tomei and Princess Beatrice of York were spotted in the same frock by Roksanda Ilincic last week. The blush tone 'Izumi' dress features a rounded neckline, double pleats on the bodice and long-sleeves that lead into a sapphire frilled cuffs. It's possible that somewhere Marisa's stylist is cringing, or perhaps Beatrice is a new trendsetter...either way, it was a good publicity week for the Serbian-English designer.

Left: Marisa Tomei wore the ivory crepe wool dress on 29th June during Paris Menswear Fashion Week 2012. The brunette actress paired her look with a nude clutch bag and snazzy Aperlai colourblock heels in varying shades of blue.
Middle: Princess Beatrice was the first to take the dress for an outing to the 'Britain Creates 2012' Fashion & Art Gala in London on 27th June. The young royal looked sophisticated in the Izumi knee-length dress, accompanying it with a glittered gold clutch by Anya Hindmarch and a pair of digitally printed blue pumps by Nicholas Kirkwood
Right: The dress as presented for Roksanda Ilincic's Pre-Fall 2012 collection, styled with a pair of bright red ankle-strap heels.

The Roksanda Ilincic 'Izumi' dress retails at Farfetch.com for $1216.
Princess Beatrice's pair of Nicholas Kirkwood Digitex Print pumps can be bought at Boutique1.com for $285
The Aperlai Mixed Media Colourblock sandal that Marisa wears has been reduced on Saks Fifth Avenue for a price of $484.57

There is no doubt that both ladies wear this dress with grace and elegance, so it all comes down to styling and shoes. I like the pop of red as seen in the original model's look. If I had to choose between the two, I'd pick Marisa's look, because I preferred her hair up, and for those eye-catching Aperlai platform sandals. Having a dress this simple, those heels provide the perfect point of interest and vivacity. What are your thoughts?

Yes, Marisa wore it better. She just seemed to carry the look better in general...
But what a stunning dress!
Beautiful post, Sam!

I like the dress and personally I prefer the simplicity in Princess Beatrice look.

I'm not a big fan of the dress, but I love the model's look because the red heels pop against the rather plain dress. I have to say though, those Nicholas Kirkwood shoes are absolutely gorgeous! A work of art!

Awww I've been pretty good hun, just busy busy BUSY (as you can tell from my infrequent posts -_-) How've you been hun? Im gonna have to agree with you, I think the dress was styled the best on Miss Illincics' model BUT I actually prefer Beatrice over Marissa! haha. I think the choice of shoe is more complimentary but I agree that the hair up looks better haha. Pros and cons on both. Perhaps its a tie? ... :P

Dear Sam, thank you for your loving moment, I feel so blessed to have friends like you! I'm feeling a lot better now thank you :) I like it better on the model. I feel like the 'fits' and 'sits' better on her. And I like the way the look and lines are broken with the red heels :) xoxox

I LOVE these posts you do - It always amazes me how amazing stars can make the look their own, & see the potential in things off the runway. The dress on the model, although gorgeous just isnt that appealing...but then...you see it on them and its knock out amazing, drop dead gorgeous. I SO agree with your comments for Marise, but I can't ever go past a princess ;) So think Princess Beatrice of York pulled this look off better (don't like the shoe option though). Princess Beatrice just gets more gorgeous with age doesn't she?

I think I would go for Marisa as well, the dress is really figure-flattering in Princess Beatrice's case, but Beatrice herself looks ugly in that photo.

I'm picking my new passport up today! Just answering that at first, cause I'm very excited! (And then ready to go back!) Well, I liked both looks... I like the dress very much and both wore it with class and matching it perfectly with the shoes - I liked both pairs! So it's difficult to decide... :)

Ivana said...

This is so hard, I can't even decide which one wore it best, they all look fantastic! But I think I have a slight preference for Princess Beatrice, maybe it's something in her posture...anyhow, this is really a beautiful dress!

Hi sweetie :)
I was following you for a long time with bloglovin, that's how I saw your post about Portugal ;)
Yesterday I noticed that I wasn't following you via GFC, then added me into your GFC followers list! But that is weird because I only follow blogs with bloglovin, after following via GFC! So it seems that in your case I did the opposite :S

Thanks for following me on GFC, I'm really grateful for that :)

I happen to think the model looks the best. Marisa Tomei's version is so wrinkled and crumply. She should have had it tailored.

I too prefer Marissa's look, though there is something with her look that i don't quite get. I wish she did not look just a tad tired...

This is tough! I slightly prefer Beatrice over Marisa only because I don't like Marisa's choice of heels.
